New Blackberry On Linux PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jason Spatafore

I just bought a new Blackberry Curve as my old one was dying out and figured I should  update. I had a 7290. Did it work?

It was actually very simple and straighforward.

1. Download Barry for Linux

2. Install the software. (Very straighforward.)

3. Attach your old Blackberry.

4. Run the barrybackup command from the command line. (Must sudo if you're on Ubuntu.)

5. Give your old device a name. You can select items from the config menu. (I only did the address book.)

6. Back up the file.

7. Remove your Blackberry and attach your new one.

8. Give your new one a name.

9. Run a backup, then run restore.

10. Select your *other* Blackberry's file to restore from.

11. Done.

It worked like a charm for me. All 80 contacts transferred without issue. Quite amazing for a free piece of software. Again, did not need to touch Windows.
